A Musical Parody

Aladdin’s Eatery

I used to write reviews on the Yelp website. Part of the challenge, in my experience, was how to distinguish my reviews from others and how to get them to stand out. One method I employed was changing the words to a popular song or TV theme to fit my review. One of my favorite reviews was for a restaurant in Chicago called “Aladdin’s Eatery” which featured Middle Eastern cuisine.

The intonation of the words “Aladdin’s Eatery” seemed to match that of “The Addams Family” TV series from the mid-1960’s. And thus, my review on Yelp took this form:

“Aladdin’s Eatery”
(To the tune of “The Addams Family” theme song)

They’ve got fresh juice for sippin’
And lentil soup with chicken
With pita bread for dippin’
Aladdin’s Eatery

Fattoush I eat a lot of
With Lebanese Salata
And olives Kalamata
Aladdin’s Eatery

Do do do doot, (snap, snap)
Do do do doot, (snap, snap)
Do do do doot, Do do do doot,
Do do do doot, (snap, snap)

So walk on down to Clark Street
Then head east on Diversey
A few more steps then you’ll see
Aladdin’s Eatery.

As much as I enjoyed their food, Aladdin’s Eatery has since closed. Luckily, I still have my creative review to sing to myself when I’m in their old neighborhood. And, yes, I do sometimes sing it to myself for old time’s sake.
